While you might think giving your dogs fatty foods is bad for them, it actually has many benefits (when given in moderation). Feeding your dog fats gives them energy and helps them have healthy cells to fight off diseases and infections. Fats have the essential acids linoleic, linolenic and archidonic. These give your dog omega-6 fatty acids, omega-3 fatty acids and the ability to absorb vitamins A, E, D and K.
So what kind of fats are benefit to your dog? You might consider adding some to their kibble, and some good recommends include:
- Fish oil
- Coconut oil
- Lean meat (chicken, beef)
- Sardines (we know, yuck but your dog could be a fan)
Make sure you give these in moderation. If you give your dog an entire container of coconut or fish oil, they could get sick. The same goes with lean meats and sardines. Think about cutting up a few pieces or give them a couple spoonfuls with their kibble for best results.
